I personally took time to do side quests and uncover the map while completing tombs/circles/etc. I received some decent XP and equipment from those quests.

Nah I've grinded, as in I'm going for the 1000 gamerscore (currently at 960). For that I need to complete all locations. The ones in the higher level areas dole out quite a bit of XP for completion. If you remember to loot all the vases and stuff you'll accumulate quite an amount of gold (and sellable loot) as well.
