\$\begingroup\$ The EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS is sharper on the wide end (i.e. 24-50mm) than it is on the long end. From 50mm on up it loses a bit the longer you zoom it. It is weakest at 105mm. It's still probably a bit better than the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. In terms of durability, though, there is no comparison.
